Message from Singaporeans For Democracy
Dear friends in Singapore and abroad,
We are pleased to announce that the Singaporeans for Democracy website and FaceBook group are now ready. These sites include background information (ROS cover letter, FAQs), the ROS application materials (draft constitution, protem committee member list, case reference number) and some recent news items.
We are releasing this information to provide you more details of our application to register a political association, Singaporeans for Democracy (SFD). The application was filed online with the Registry of Societies (ROS) (Singapore) on 28 April 2009. The principle aim of this NGO is to promote civil and political reforms in Singapore. Its scope and approach are elaborated in our draft constitution and explained in the FAQs.
On 5th January 2010, after waiting for nearly 9 months for the results of our application, a public announcement of the application was made. This announcement has since been picked up by both the online and offline media and resulted in the public acknowledgment by the Registrar that the application for this new NGO was indeed filed on 28 April 2009 and is still pending approval.
Since the first public announcement, we have been assembling all our ROS application materials and other background materials to present them on a web platform. We hope these sites will provide you access to all the necessary information we have in our possession with regards to our application to register Singaporeans for Democracy.
On 14 January 2010, as part of the Talk Politics #10: Critical NGOs and Civil Society activity and the soft launch of the SFD sites, I will participate in a question-and-answer session on how Singaporeans for Democracy can contribute to politics in Singapore. The event will be held from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Post Museum, 107 Rowell Road, Singapore. (Directions:http://www.post-museum.org/map.html)
We look forward to receiving any feedback you might have to offer via online or offline and to work closely with all of you in the near future.
Dr. James Gomez On behalf of the Protem Committee
