The arrest was made pursuant to a police report made by the Media Development Authority on 16 July 2010. UPDATE:

(1) Lawyer Mr M Ravi is acting as legal counsel for Alan Shadrake. Ravi has written to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to request access to his client. In his letter, Ravi said “We humbly and urgently request access to our client to take his instructions on the above matter and advise him on his legal rights. Kindly expedite our request as our client is 75 years old and has medical conditions.”

(2) British High Commission is reported to be in contact with Alan and is providing consular assistance.

(3) 19 July, 2325 hours. Just been notified that Alan is to be released on bail. Activist Seelan Palay is now on his way to bail him out now at Cantonment Police Headquarters.

(4) Alan is released on bail and will be charged in court. Charges are unknown at the time of posting.

Some of us met him for coffee and snack after his session at Cantonment today and he related to us that he bumped into a journalist from Wanbao who was there at the launch on Saturday. She told him that her audio recording of the whole launch was taken away by the police. She was also questioned about the launch.

(11) The Attorney-General’s applications on the commital of contempt of court will be heard this coming Friday (30 July) in Court 5E of the Supreme Court at 10am in the morning.

This is just sick to the stomach. Reading about this just proves that the system will do anything to cover up its tracks. I just hope the international community will raise hell on this obvious injustice.
